Sumitomo Electric Lightwave On the Road - OFC 2026 Preview

Written by Sumitomo Electric Lightwave | Mar 12, 2026 6:03:41 PM

Experts from Sumitomo Electric Lightwave and Sumitomo Electric Group will be in booth 1658 showcasing breakthrough hyperscale solutions at OFC 2026, March 17-19 in Los Angeles, California.

The exhibit focus will be the companies’ recent passive and active network innovations that help network operators scale in three dimensions: up, out, and across.

These featured products enable rapid, reliable scaling up of high-density racks, scaling out across rows within data centers, and scaling across multi-location facilities.

Exhibit highlights include:

Multi-Core Fiber Collaboration

We will demonstrate our recent achievements with multi-core fiber (MCF) to deliver significantly more capacity and interconnections within existing network footprints.

Join us in OIF’s Interoperability Showcase in booth 2017 for a real-time, multi-vendor exhibit showing how the MCF ecosystem efficiently delivers scale, speed, and energy.

In case you missed it, we announced a collaboration between industry leaders to
develop a new multi-sourcing agreement to facilitate MCF adoption and accelerate the development of new technology and information standards.

Co-Packaged Optics

Integrating Sumitomo Electric Industries’ expertise in photonics, lasers, and optical connectivity, our co-packaged optics (CPO) solutions reduce the distance between components and increase bandwidth, improve system performance, and enable future scalability. Come to booth 1658 to see an intact co-packaged internal wiring concept model and a fully integrated co-packaged model to the ASIC installed in a rack.

AI-Ready Connectors

We will introduce the latest in high-density connector evolution at OFC, including our PrecisionFlex™ MT & TMT Multi-Row Ferrules. See our recent MMC connector innovations, including the industry-leading 32-fiber MMC – which was awarded high marks in the 2026 Lightwave Innovation Reviews – as well as multi-source Prizm® TMT expanded beam ferrules.

AI-Optimized Rack

Scaling up looks different in a rack that has been optimized for AI workloads from top to bottom. Explore our AI-optimized rack in booth 1658 and ask us about vertical separation in your raceways, U-turn bends for drop cables, spring-loaded dust covers, and our time-saving installation tool.

Award-Winning 16-Fiber Fusion Splicer

After receiving a near-perfect 4.5/5.0 score in the Lightwave Innovation Reviews, the new AI-enabled Quantum-Ultra Ribbon 16-fiber splicer will make its OFC debut. Our latest splicer speeds the deployment of high-performance, next-generation hyperscale networks and is ready to support any network, no matter the fiber count or pitch requirements.

Metro Ethernet Switches

A metro switch and DWDM in one, our FTU9401 helps service providers and businesses offer fast, reliable Ethernet services throughout city networks. These switches act as edge devices, linking a customer's local network to the provider's fiber optic backbone.

Custom Optical Harnesses

Proven to deliver high-speed, reliable data transmission in the automotive industry, custom optical harnesses offer unique sensing and control capabilities in high-speed data applications across a range of applications. They are engineered for durability in demanding environments with a lightweight design, EMI immunity, and secure connectivity.

Not Just Products

Next Generation Thinking™ extends beyond Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s exhibit in the convention hall. OFC 2026 technical conference attendees can participate in plenary sessions with our expert speakers.

Jay Sell, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s Senior Director of Strategic Accounts, will be a featured speaker answering the question “MCFs at the Edge of AI: Can They Transform Intra-DC and Campus Connectivity?” on Sunday, March 15 at 4 p.m. in Room 502A.

Takashi Sasaki, Sumitomo Electric R&D, will share his perspective on the panel titled “Is the Ecosystem Ready for Multicore Fibers?” on Wednesday, March 18 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 502A.

There is still time to register for OFC 2026. The technical conference begins Sunday, March 15 at the Los Angeles Convention Center; exhibits open 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17.
